Home Scout Units Association Headquarters Mainland Affairs Branch

The Mainland Affairs Branch is the external affairs department of the Association responsible for communication with Mainland youth organizations. It links local members with mainland youths. The Branch arranges visits between local and youth organizations in mainland and coordinates the participation of mainland events.

Mainland Exchange Activities

The Branch is to organize mainland exchange activities, including “10,000 Miles Friendship Trek”, “Mainland Exchange Study Tour” and “Mainland Internship Programme”, to strengthen the awareness on the homeland of local youth.

Hospitality

The branch is responsible for the hospitality of the visits of guests from mainland. The current situation of the Association is introduced to enhance the understanding of the visiting guests.

Support Services

Support Scout units to travel to the Mainland for exchange activities.

Sichuan Volunteer Training

After the earthquake of Sichuan in 2008, our Association was subsidized by the HKSAR government to assist in the reconstruction of Mianyang Youth Activity Centre and Deyang Youth Palace. Hong Kong Scouts were committed to implement a 5-year Sichuan Youth Training Service Project. This project was successfully completed in February 2017. To sustain the goal of promoting voluntary work in Sichuan, our Association reached an agreement with the two cities’ Youth Federation. We will continue supporting their related activities.

10,000 Miles Friendship Trek

“10,000 Miles Friendship Trek“ introduced since Year 2002, which organized by the 14 Uniform Groups in Hong Kong. Through the inspection activities, members can understand the history, culture and economy development, thurs to deepen the understanding of the national conditions, to communicate and build up friendship with the youths in the Mainland.

In one day of the trip, members will take part in “Youth meeting under the National Flag” that organized by Liaison Office of the Central People's Government, to deepen the members’ recognition of their national identity through watching the flag-raising ceremony.

Mainland Exchange Study Tour

Mainland Affairs Branch organizes “Mainland Exchange Study Tour” every year which aims to introduce the situation of the Mainland to Scout members, and to explore how to organized exchange programme in Mainland. Scout members and leaders will attend a workshop in Hong Kong and study specific topic before the trip to raise awareness of the development in the Mainland. Scout members and leaders first attended workshops in Hong Kong, studied specific topics, and then went to the Mainland to conduct inspections to raise awareness of the development of the Mainland. Since 2018, our Branch has launched a series of “Into the Greater Bay Area” activities to provide youth members a deeper understanding of the area.

Mainland Internship Programme

We organized the first Mainland Internship Programme in 2015 Summer, which is the first internship programme for Scout members. This programme provided an opportunity for participants to work at prestigious corporates in mainland for 1 month which gave them a taste of working in China and a chance of experiencing the culture of Mainland job market. Weekend excursion and exchange activities were arranged during their leisure time, which enriched their knowledge about the cultural and economic development in China. Previously co-operating companies includes C-BONS Holding (International) Limited, Humanwell Healthcare (Group) Company Limited, Baijie Group Company Limited and Zall Development (Cayman) Holding Company Limited. We will continue coordinating this programme to let more youth members gain valuable experiences from it.

Reception of Mainland Youth Organizations

To strengthen the cultural exchanges between Chinese and Hong Kong youths, Youth federation in Mainland or youth organizations referred by Youth federation are welcome to visit us at the Hong Kong Scout Centre. Please contact the Branch directly for the arrangement.

Scout units which intend to receive mainland guests should complete Form MAB/01B [Chinese version only] and get approval from corresponding Region Commissioner / Assistant Chief Commissioner (Mainland Affairs).

Application for mainland visit / activity

Scout members who want to organize or arrange mainland visits or activities should get approval from corresponding Region Commissioner / Assistant Chief Commissioner (Mainland Affairs). Application by unit should complete Form (MAB/01A) [Chinese version only] while individual should complete Form (MAB/01C) [Chinese version only]. For regional units, including Districts and Groups, should submit your application to the Region. For non-regional units, for example Branches, Leadership Training Institute, BP Club and the Friends of Scouting etc., should submit your application to Mainland Affairs Branch. All forms can be taken from the Mainland Affairs Branch or regional headquarters.

The Branch will co-ordinate with different level of the government to ensure that the visits can be carried out smoothly.

Hong Kong Scouts were committed to implement a 5-year Sichuan Youth Training Service Project. The purpose of this program is to assist the reconstruction of the minds of youths in Mianyang, Deyang and surrounding areas in Sichuan, to cultivate their physical, mental and group development, to regain their confidence to face adversity challenges and to grow healthily.

The five-year “Sichuan Youth Training Service Project” ended on 28 February 2017, nearly 170,000 people were served. To sustain the goal of “Sichuan Youth Training Service Project” that deepen the development of youth activities between Hong Kong and Sichuan, and help the country to promote youth development, our Association reached an agreement with the Mianyang and the Deyang Youth Federation, which will continue to support their related activities from 2017 to 2023.
